eInvoice Viewer – App

Free · No installation · Ready to embed

A folder instead of an installation. On your own computer, on your intranet, in SharePoint.

The app is the free eInvoice Viewer without WordPress. It shows accounting teams, tax advisors and IT departments any e-invoice as a readable document, on your own computer, on your intranet or in SharePoint. An e-invoice is an invoice stored as a structured file that a program can read, but is hard for a person to read.

You download a ZIP file, unpack it and open the viewer with a double click. Or your IT team puts the folder on the intranet once and embeds the viewer in an existing page. For the double click, you need neither a server nor an account, and the app makes no outside connection. Your invoice never leaves your computer.

With add-ons, the hub for incoming invoices. The app has the same version number as the plugin, currently 2.39.0, and the same INVOICE, XML and PDF tabs. You simply drop paid add-ons such as the Hybrid Check, the payment code or the Inbound Check into the folder, and they appear as tabs of their own.

The app shows an invoice exactly like the WordPress plugin, because both use the same viewer core.

Three places to use it, one package

Download once. Use it where your invoices arrive.

Note Note

On your own computer

Unpack the ZIP file and, in the folder einvoice-viewer-for-peppol-en16931, open the file einvoice-viewer-for-peppol-en16931.html with a double click. The app runs from the hard disk, from a USB stick or from a network drive, with no installer and no administrator rights.

Tools Tools

In your website or intranet

Put the folder on your web server and embed the viewer in an existing page, for example in TYPO3, in Drupal or in a page you built yourself. Three lines of HTML are all it takes, or a single one if you show the viewer in a frame.

In SharePoint

With the “Embed” web part, the viewer appears right on your SharePoint page, the place where your accounting team already works. A web part is a building block that SharePoint shows on a page.

Also in the package: the viewer as a single file. Next to the folder lies the one-file app: the viewer as one single HTML file that you pass on by e-mail or on a USB stick. It comes in English and loads further languages, code lists, the PDF reader and the manual from the internet when needed; the folder, in contrast, brings everything along. You find a demo of the one-file apps on einvoiceTools.de. If you want to embed the viewer in a page, the folder remains the right way.

Embedding

Make the viewer a part of your own page.

Your staff don’t have to learn a new program or send an invoice to an outside service. The viewer appears where they already work and reads the invoice in the browser. The folder brings everything the viewer needs, including the data, the fonts and the library for reading PDF files. Because the viewer fetches nothing from outside, it also runs behind a firewall and on computers without internet access.

1 · Put the folder in place
once, on your web server
2 · Embed it
as a frame or as an element
3 · Read invoices
right in your page
How the viewer gets into your own page: put the folder in place, embed it, read invoices.

The quick way: a frame (iframe)

Put the unpacked folder on a web server and add this one line to your page. Replace the address with the address of your own server. The frame has a fixed height.

<iframe src="https://intranet.your-company.com/einvoice-viewer-for-peppol-en16931/einvoice-viewer-for-peppol-en16931.html" width="100%" height="900" title="eInvoice Viewer"></iframe>

This works in any system that allows HTML.

The built-in way: the element in three lines

This way is meant for developers. The viewer is a custom HTML element named <einvoice-viewer>. It fits into your page without a frame, grows with its content and adapts to the width of the column it is in. You need three lines:

  • the fonts, in the head of the page: <link rel="stylesheet" href="/path/to/package/assets/css/fonts.css">
  • the element, where the viewer should appear: <einvoice-viewer data-base="/path/to/package/"></einvoice-viewer>
  • the script: <script src="/path/to/package/einvoice-viewer.js"></script>

The styles of your page don’t change the viewer, and the styles of the viewer don’t change your page. The ready-made sample page examples/embed.html in the package shows every single step.

Embedding in SharePoint

  • Put the unpacked folder on a web server in your organization. The server must be reachable over https.
  • Add the “Embed” web part to the SharePoint page.
  • Enter the address of the file einvoice-viewer-for-peppol-en16931.html on your server.

SharePoint only shows content from addresses that are allowed for embedding. Your SharePoint administrator adds the address of your server once.

What your IT team will appreciate

  • No outside connection. The app does not report anywhere and loads nothing afterward.
  • One file for the settings. In the file config.js, you set the language and whether the fonts come from the folder.
  • Three languages. German, English and French are included. The app follows the browser language, and DE · EN · FR at the top right switches it.
  • Settings you can take along. If an add-on brings settings of its own, the browser stores them, and a backup file takes them to another computer.
  • Free license. The app is licensed under GPL 2.0 or later. There are no license fees and no user counting.

What the app shows

Everything the plugin shows.

  • Every field of the invoice

The app shows the invoice header, the parties, the line items, VAT and the totals. If you wish, each field gets its number from EN 16931 (BT-…) next to it; EN 16931 is the European standard for the data in an e-invoice. This lets you name every field precisely, for example when you have a question for the sender.

  • All bank accounts and attachments

If the invoice names several accounts or means of payment, the app shows each of them, not only the first one. You view attachments right there and save them when you need to.

  • Marked anomalies

The app recalculates and marks amounts that do not add up, missing mandatory fields and a due date before the invoice date. The mark is red, and a line below it gives the reason.

  • ZUGFeRD, Factur-X, XRechnung, Peppol

The app reads a PDF with an embedded XML invoice, called ZUGFeRD in Germany and Factur-X in France. It also reads the plain XML file in its two forms, CII and UBL, for example an XRechnung or an invoice from the Peppol network. Credit notes are read as well.

  • Tabs for invoice, XML and PDF

The XML tab shows the invoice the way a validator does, one line per element with BT number and value, plus a search. The PDF tab shows the pages of a PDF invoice or an embedded PDF. Every add-on with a result gets a tab of its own.

Who the app is for

The app is for accounting teams who want to read an incoming XRechnung, and for tax advisors who open a client’s file. It is for IT departments that want to roll out a viewer in-house without installing anything, and for everyone whose invoices must not leave the building.

The app is not a validator. A validator is a program that checks an invoice against all the rules of its format. The app shows what is in the invoice and only marks what can be seen from the invoice itself. It cannot read a PDF without embedded invoice data, for example a scan.

App or plugin? Do you run a WordPress website? Then the free plugin offers the same viewer as a shortcode, plus validation buttons for the validators and limits per role. A shortcode is a short placeholder in square brackets that WordPress replaces with the viewer.
