A valid invoice can still carry a wrong number

An e-invoice can pass every rule set of its format and still contain a VAT ID, a GLN or an IBAN with a typo, because those rules check the structure, not the check digits. eInvoice Viewer — Identifier Check finds such errors in the free eInvoice Viewer as soon as the invoice is shown, without a single click.

What makes it special

• Check digits, not just formats. The add-on checks eighteen identifier fields, from seller and buyer to payee, delivery location, bank accounts, SEPA creditor and items. It knows the check digits of 22 kinds of identifiers, including GLN, SIREN and SIRET, LEI, the Swiss UID, IBAN, the SEPA creditor ID and the ISO 11649 creditor reference, and it checks length and structure of 16 further schemes and of the BIC. EU VAT IDs are checked by country code, length and structure, UK VAT numbers by their check digits. What you get: a mistyped number is found before it causes a payment or a rejection.
• The error stands at its field. A wrong identifier gets a red border and a sentence that says what is wrong. From viewer 2.38.0, the tab “Identifier Check” lists every identifier as a card with its field, its value and the result. What you get: you see at once which number is wrong and why.
• Confirmed at the source, if you wish. On request, the add-on asks the responsible register itself: VIES of the European Commission for VAT IDs, the commercial registers of eleven countries, GLEIF for the LEI and the Peppol Directory for every other identifier with a scheme code. No API key is needed for this; five registers require access data that you request from them yourself. The invoicePress.de service remains an alternative route. The online check is switched off by default and can be limited to logged-in users. What you get: certainty that a company and its number really exist.

What’s included

• The add-on for the viewer app is a separate download.

The add-on does not check whether an invoice follows the rules of its specification; that is the job of a validator.

Requirements

• WordPress and PHP 8.2 or later.
• The free eInvoice Viewer for PEPPOL & EN16931, version 2.34.0 or later, installed and active; version 2.38.0 or later for the tab “Identifier Check”.
• For the online check: an internet connection from your server.
• In the app: the viewer app instead of WordPress.
